ElasticSearch is an amazing search engine with a REST API .It is open source .. and it is for FREE.

(Ages ago, I wrote very simple tutorial that cover installation process and basics too,but my was step-by-step ,boring and pictureless. Joel Abrahamsson wrote really amazing tutorial and I wish to have time to do in similar way :) ).
